Daedalus Rising is an inspirational tale that debunks an ancient myth about a boy named Icarus and the wings he received as a gift from his father. The truth is that all those years ago, Icarus did not fall into the sea and drown after flying too close to the sun. That old myth is either a clever ruse or an outright lie, and this book proves it, because Icarus was discovered alive and well on a beautiful Aegean Island.
What really happened in the sky that day between Icarus and his father is the mystery. A story that’s never been told, until now. What the old myth tells us is that both of them had wings, and that on a beautiful warm day long ago, both were far from land soaring out over the sea. Did anyone other than Daedalus actually see Icarus fall? No. When everything was over, Daedalus gave the only account of what happened in the sky. There was something in the pathos of his story, that people just believed it. In its retelling the story grew and grew, passed on through the generations, which just shows the awesome power of words.
So how foolish was it for Daedalus to build and give such a gift, working wings, and not expect his teenage son to test their power, as well as the warning that went with them. After all, Daedalus was a clever man, someone with a gift for invention. He designed and built working wings, an incredible accomplishment. It had to be his life's work. And he had to know, having once been a son himself, that Icarus would be tempted to soar on those wings into exactly the one place that Daedalus warned him not to go. Why would an accomplished inventor devote all that time and energy designing and building wings, only to be complicit in their destruction? And a why would a father send his son out to fail, so far from land and without a net?
There are many reasons why the old myth makes no sense at all. It was in fact a fabrication, something Daedalus made up, because he had another purpose. This new book solves the mystery of what it was that Daedalus wanted or needed to hide that much, but it is much more than just a retelling of an old myth. It is the story of the relationship between a father and a child as each one grows and becomes more. And it is a new mythology, one based in hope and inspiration.
